The Invisible Burnout of Doing Business "Right"

I used to have the perfect content calendar.
Perfect strategy.
Perfect posting rhythm.

And I was bloody miserable.

Not because I didn’t love my work I do. But because somewhere along the way, I started performing instead of connecting. I was showing up as the “professional Helen” version of myself instead of the full, weird, joyful, swearing, slightly chaotic human that my clients actually love.

And that disconnect?

It repels the very people you’re trying to attract.

What Alignment Actually Looks Like

Alignment isn’t a strategy. It’s a feeling.

It’s when the way you show up in your business mirrors who you actually are.

When I deleted my content calendar and started posting in the moment with joy, with humour, with whatever-the-hell-was-on-my-mind not only did my energy come back… but my engagement exploded.

And better than that? The right clients started arriving. The ones who get it. The ones who already feel connected.

They weren’t attracted by the perfect funnel.

They were attracted by resonance.

You Don’t Have to Share Everything But You Do Need to Share Something Real

I’m not saying you need to spill your soul online or document your every thought. You don’t.

But people can tell when you’re hiding behind a persona. They can smell it.

Whether it’s your obsession with your dog (hi Dave 🐾), your weird hobby, your sarcastic streak, or the fact that you do your best thinking while watching ants in the garden… that is the stuff that makes you magnetic. That’s what makes you memorable.

If you’ve been second-guessing your content, wondering why things feel “off,” ask yourself:

Am I actually showing up as me?
Or am I showing up as who I think I need to be to get the sale?

A Little Exercise to Bring You Back Into Alignment

Here’s a journaling prompt I shared on the podcast, and I want to offer it to you here too. It’s simple, but powerful.

👉 On one side of the page, write: Who am I?

List all the roles you hold. All the labels. All the parts of you business owner, parent, partner, creative, nerd, introvert, whatever.

👉 On the other side, write: What brings me joy?

Not just “a nice coffee.” I mean the real stuff. Drumming. Dancing. Walking. Drawing. Watching clouds. Watching Real Housewives. Doesn’t matter as long as it brings you back to yourself.

Now look at what’s missing from your business.
Where could joy and alignment be leading the strategy instead of the other way around?

Because when you're in alignment when you're in joy your ideal clients feel it. And they’re drawn to you. Not because you’re polished… but because you’re real.
